Acanthus mollis (Latifolius Group) 'Rue Ledan'

Description:
This perennial cuts a striking presence in the border with large, lobed, glossy evergreen leaves and architectural spires of flowers. The bees love the white blooms which are tinged with green hoods and appear in summer reaching up to 1.5m tall.
It is a strong grower and drought tolerant, forming a dense clump and putting down deep roots which make it tricky (but not impossible) to remove once established. Acanthus mollis originates in the Mediterranean and is UK hardy, tolerating a range of soil conditions provided there is good drainage and growing well in full sun or partial shade.
Well suited to low maintenance gardens and schemes that focus on year round interest using foliage to create contrast and texture. Also perfect for gravel gardens and the back of mixed herbaceous borders or slightly shady spots.
