Betula utilis var jacquemontii

Description:

Himalayan Birch is the showy cousin of Silver Birch.  It makes a wonderful specimen tree with deep green leaves and spectacular bright white peeling bark, spring catkins and yellow autumn foliage.  This medium sized has shallow roots which mean that underplanting is limited to plants which will tolerate dry, dappled-shade.  It grows in a wide range of situations and is most effective when planted in small groups as either single or multi stemmed specimens to make the biggest impact. Planting trees close together is a way to reduce the eventual height and size. Fabulous in large planters used as smaller multi-stems underplanted with Vinca minor alba is a favourite combination for us!
