Prunus serrula

Description:
Also known as Tibetan Cherry, unlike other ornamental cherries the blossom or fruit is not the main event with this variety. Prunus serrula is famous for it's fabulous, shiny burgundy-bronze peeling bark which looks amazing in every season.  It is a small deciduous tree grown as either a multi-stemmed form to make the most of the ornamental bark or single stemmed with a rounded canopy.  Narrow green leaves look beautiful fluttering above the bronze trunk in summer and turn butter yellow in autumn.  Small clusters of white flowers appear in spring followed by clusters of fruits. We love to grow this cherry as a multi-stem, in small groups through small grasses like Hakonechloa and low planting with cool blues, purples, whites and greens which contrast the beautiful eye catching bark. Also perfect for large planters and easy to grow.
