Salvia officinalis

Description:

Sage is an evergreen aromatic shrub whose leaves are great in cooking. It need not be restricted to a herb garden and earns a place in the herbaceous border too with it's attractive grey-green foliage and evergreen presence. Great for a bit of substance in planters too! Originating in the Mediterranean, Sage requires a sunny spot and well drained soil to thrive. Plants should be clipped regularly to encourage new young growth (which has the best flavour in cooking), and to prevent the plant going straggly and woody.
