Aftercare & Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to cover my outdoor kitchen in winter?

No. English Outdoor Kitchens are designed to remain outdoors all year round. The materials and finishes are selected specifically for external use, and the kitchens often look particularly beautiful during the winter months.

How do I clean the worktop?

Worktops can be cleaned using warm soapy water and a soft cloth. We recommend avoiding abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals, as these are unnecessary and may damage the surface over time.

Will the paint weather or fade?

Over time, all outdoor finishes will gently age — this is part of their character. Our hand-painted finish is designed to weather gracefully rather than peel or fail. If you ever wish to refresh the colour, the cabinetry can be easily repainted.

Can I repaint the kitchen myself?

Yes. One of the advantages of a hand-painted timber kitchen is that it can be repainted without specialist equipment. We can also advise on suitable paints and preparation if needed.

Are the cupboards weatherproof?

The cupboards are designed for outdoor use but are not airtight or sealed like indoor furniture. They will protect stored items from direct weather, but dust and insects are a natural part of outdoor life.

What should I store in the cupboards?

They are ideal for outdoor dining cushions, garden tools, trays and informal serving items. We do not recommend storing indoor crockery long-term.

Why don’t you build units for integrated appliances?

Appliance sizes and specifications change regularly, making long-term compatibility difficult. Our kitchens are designed to outlast appliances, remaining useful and relevant for many years.

How much maintenance is required?

We recommend cleaning the work surface periodically to keep the kitchen looking tidy and thoroughly prior to and after use, just as you would with a work surface indoors.  Apart from that, very little maintenance is required. Occasional cleaning, visual checks after winter, and repainting only when desired. These kitchens are designed to be lived with, not fussed over.
