Bespoke Design Service – What’s The Process?

Our Bespoke Design Services are ideal if you’d like a more consultative approach to your project than our Garden SmartPlan Packages can provide.  If you’re looking for a more traditional approach to designing your garden, you’re planning on building the garden yourself or have a local landscaper to build it for you then our Bespoke Design Service is for you.

The service typically starts from £10,000, depending on the complexity of your site and the design input required.

Stage 1 | Discovery

Our Bespoke Design Service, for projects in our working area, begins with a discovery design consultation on site from one of our designers, priced at £400 inc. VAT.  This visit (typically lasting around 2 hours) results in the creation of a comprehensive design brief for your project.

Stage 2 | The Site Survey

We’ll arrange for a topographical survey quotation from a specialist land surveyor and organise this for you (all surveys are quoted by and payable to the surveyor directly).

Stage 3 | Site Analysis, Concept & Budget Guide

You will be allocated a lead Garden Designer who would use the information in both your design brief and the topographical survey to develop a concept for your outdoor space which they would then present to you in person – this includes a proposed layout for your scheme with mood images, and also budget guide of how much we think the transformation is likely to cost. This stage usually takes 6-8 weeks.

Stage 4 | Concept Development, General Arrangement, Landscape Plan and Updated Budget Guide

Based on your feedback from the concept plan presented at Stage 3, we will develop the design, leading to the production of a general arrangement plan, updated budget allocations, a concept video and a Landscape Smartplan that focuses on any hard landscaping work a contractor may need to undertake and illustrates the design layout, surfaces and materials in your new scheme. This stage usually takes an additional 6-8 weeks.

Stage 5 | Working Drawings

This final design stage includes a set of plans including:

  • Drainage Plan part 1 | 2D plan indicating the proposed drainage on site.
  • Lighting Plan part 1 | 2D plan. The lighting locations plan indicates the suggested lighting units proposed and where they will be located in the garden.
  • Services Plan part 1 | 2D plan indicating the services required for the proposed garden. This plan includes proposed electrical sockets, CAT 5 cables, mains water pipes and gas pipes.
  • Conduit Plan | 2D plan indicating where conduit under hardscape would be required.
  • Remediation Plan | Illustrating elements and features to be removed, this plan is essential for contractors to quote accurately for the clearance of the garden prior to construction.
  • Levels Plan | Illustrating both existing and proposed levels. The levels plan will be created from the levels of the original survey and ensures the design sits as efficiently as possible into the existing site.
  • Section Levels | A 2D plan indicating how the proposed garden levels work with the existing garden levels. This is an especially useful drawing to enable contractors to understand the proposed levels.
  • Setting Out Plan | Illustrating the measurements and dimensions required to set out the garden
  • Updated Budget Guide | Reflecting the financial implications of any design amendments you’ve requested since the presentation of stage 4
