Agapanthus africanus

Description:

Agapanthus africanus are striking evergreen perennials producing show stopping, long-stemmed umbels of bright blue flowers in late summer. Fabulous grown in sheltered, well drained borders or gravel gardens combined with ornamental grasses or as we prefer at Bestall & Co - gorgeous statement planters!  Agapanthus do need some fuss in winter as they are not totally hardy. Protect with horticultural fleece, deep mulch or if grown in planters, overwinter in a sheltered place such as a greenhouse, foliage may be lost in very cold winters but should return in spring if their roots are in well drained soil. They will be reluctant to flower if allowed to dry out after flowering in late summer and like to have constricted roots.
