Heptacodium miconioides

Description:
A highly decorative small tree native to China, which we love for it's unusually late flowering and seasonal interest. Prolific clusters of fragrant white flowers are produced in late summer when most other plants' flowering is coming to an end. As the petals fall, the calyx (outer sepals formed from the bud) turn a dark pinky-red and continue the display for weeks.  The bark peels during the winter months extending the ornamental value. A great choice for large planters, a small multistem specimen for a focal point or equally happy in a woodland location. It is tolerant of most conditions but requires a sheltered spot out of strong wind and well drained soil.
