Description Dry stone effect wall with York Stone coping.
Please note that this is a natural product and therefore variances, veins and slight colour changes are present within the stone. The colour of materials may vary from the samples provided due to the variances in natural products. It is perfectly normal to expect chipped edges where the material has been shaped.
Installation
Installers to supply and construct the retaining wall as per the drawing for walls under 1.2m high (walls exceeding 1.2m in height must be specified by a structural engineer).
Consolidated sub-base with 300mm deep concrete footings at least 100mm wider than the width of the wall at both sides – footings to be RC 35/45 concrete with 2 layers of re-bar mesh added to provide extra strong foundations.
Wall to be constructed from dense concrete 215x100mm blocks laid on belly with 10mm mortar gaps. Rear of block wall to be coated in a damp proof paint to protect against damp (such as IKO synthapufe).
Wall faced with York Walling Stone on all seen sides, and tied into the block wall with double triangle wall ties on every other course (placed every 700mm across the wall horizontally) before being pointed (pointing raked back so it is not visible). Facing stone work to be finished 150mm below ground level to allow for border soil settlement.
Install 6mm pencil edge (to top long edge only) 50mm thick York Stone coping to cover top of wall – allowing a 50mm overhang.
Drainage – Install 10mm pea gravel behind retaining wall to assist drainage to weep holes through 100mm perforated drainage pipe. Drainage weep holes above ground level to be provided at 1200mm centres using a 25mm diameter black pipe (see diagram).
