- Use PPE as advised by manufacturer when installing
- Supply and construct a decking subframe using 2″ x 6″ tanalised timber (use Class 4) joists at 300mm intervals, fixed to upright 100mm x 100mm posts. Noggins spaced at 600mm intervals in between joists. A minimum of 3 joists is required for any cut boards. High quality deck tape applied to top of joists before deckboard installation.
- Board ends should be supported by a minimum of 20mm subframe. Cuts must always be positioned over joists.
- Boards to run in the direction as per the plan. Use consistent board gapping throughout installation – 4mm gap between sides of boards and 1mm gap at the end of the boards for drainage and movement. Use Durafix deck screws and fixings (4.5x60mm screws for Millboard decking to a treated timber frame). Two screws per board where the board crosses a joist. Three at the ends of the boards at a slight angle 20-25mm from the ends and 20mm minimum from the sides of the board.
- A minimum slight fall of 1:200 away from buildings to help negate pooling water.
- Sub frame to be clad on all seen sides with matching fascia boards and fixed into position using Millboard’s Durafix decking screws & fixings (manufacturer’s warranty will be invalid if Millboard’s installation guide is not followed).
- Solid edge board is recommended for steps and edgings and is available in a matching colour.
