Mowing strips are a great way to define the edges of a lawn, reduce the need for weekly edging, as well as ensuring that the shape of the lawn does not become distorted over time.
Laying instructions (see drawing opposite)
We'd recommend using shuttering to create a 150mm deep solid bed for the setts to be laid on to. This can be set up following the desired shape and wide enough to accommodate the cobble sett as well as the haunching.
Once cured, lay the setts on a full bed of mortar 30mm deep.
The underside of the cobble setts should be coated with a priming slurry before being laid (such as Ultrascape slurry primer - see link for manufacturer's advice and safety information).
The joints of the pavers should be pointed with a smooth jointing compound such as Flowpoint Fine Rapid set flowable grout (see link for manufacturer's advice and safety information before installation).
