Amelanchier lamarckii

Description:
This small tree could be described as garden designers secret weapon. It is such a good do-er and has lots to shout about despite it being quite unassuming. Elegant white blossom erupts from pink toned buds in April developing into small, edible black berries which are not very palatable so better left for the birds! After flowering, bronze tinged new foliage appears which quickly turns mid-green. In autumn the leaves provides gorgeous colour as they turn red and orange before falling to expose the naked structure of the tree through winter. It is the perfect choice of tree for small gardens and is most successful in a multi-stemmed form which limits the eventual height and allows for a very elegant, open and delicate shape. A great choice for clay soils, exposed sights and planters, also great for wildlife. What's not to love?
