Pinus sylvestris 'Watereri'

Description:This Pine variety is quite a stunner. A relative of the British native Scots Pine, it is a compact variety. Very structural and ornamental in it's form, usually with a multi-stemmed branching habit and cloud like canopy. Fine evergreen, needle like foliage in glaucous blue-green tones contrasts beautifully with the rough red-brown bark. It is extremely slow growing, so decent sized specimens are quite a splurge but worth it for the elegance and structure they bring to a garden. Fabulous as a single specimen tree in a large planter on a terrace and equally stunning in an garden with Oriental or Mediterranean vibes. Great for exposed sights such a roof gardens and coastal locations, this is a very tough and hardy tree. It responds well to clipping so interesting cloud like bonsai shapes can be achieved. Well drained soil and a sunny spot required. It's worth noting that the root balls of these trees are often very heavy and require specialist lifting equipment to get them in position.
