Garden Trends for Northern Gardens this Summer 2022

Garden Trends come and go but some things are here to stay. Sheffield based garden designer Lee Bestall suggests for this summer’s must haves for 2022.

Trends within garden design are much slower to move in and out than within other industries such as fashion, but this year it’s all about the northern gardens are all about outdoor kitchens. Forget rusty cheap BBQ’s and wet outdoor entertaining, 2022 is the year of external fine dining!

Here are my top 7 Garden Trends for Gardens this year:

  1. An Outdoor kitchen – complete with food prep space, a fridge and several hot cooking methods from pizza ovens to grills Get Inspired
  2. All weather outdoor seating (I personally love the comfy sofas and wide arm chairs)
  3. External heating solutions such as gas fire pits or our overhead heat & lamp in one
  4. Low maintenance evergreen shrubs providing structure and year round interest, so even when summer has passed your garden will still look great.
  5. Mulching and feeding will never go out of fashion! It’s an annual job in spring and will help improve plant vigour, conserve water and keep down weed germination
  6. Purple and orange clashing flower colour combinations Fall in love with our planting style
  7. Lush green foliage and small shady courtyards

Northern gardens such as those we build in Sheffield, and throughout Yorkshire, Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire all have very different microclimates and by knowing which plants will thrive and where, we’re able to help our clients get the best garden.
